226 Production Dates...Looking for info...

#1

Post by OregonMichael »

Hoping someone will know. I know the 226 hiking lantern started in 1993, but how long were they made? Canadian models went much later and U.S., if I remember right. At some point, they switched to that plastic F/A tube as well. Anyone have info?

No info here. But a question... what is the life expectancy of a plastic F/A tube????

What's the lowest you'll take for this lantern?

Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present.

And oh... I don't flip GPA's... I have gifted several though. :D

I have at home:

US
1/93 x3

Canadian
1/93 (226)
3/97 (226a)

Euro
2008? (226a) (label covering dates on bottom, box is dated 2008) .

Edit to add: I haven’t had to pull a valve from one of these yet. I do know that brown 222s still have a fuel rod while black 222a and b’s have a brass pick up but no rod.

My 226 is 2/96

And, for JeepStirCrazy, I've got a 290A with original plastic F/A tube I bought new in 1987 and have used heavily for all these years and it has always had fuel in the fount, however beyond that I'm not sure. I replaced the valve core a year ago and the F/A tube looked fine. Not sure if they'll last 100 years like the brass versions, though.

Actually, it’s a plastic fuel pickup tube, NOT a fuel/air tube.

The 226 plastic pickups are built differently than the 288/290 style?

I know they went until at least 98. I have seen one with a 4/98 date, and I remember so surely because that is my youngest daughters Birthday lanten. I have been looking every since for one to buy!

Sounds like '98 is the latest date anyone has made note of. I thought it was possible the Canadian version went longer, but maybe not...? I'm also assuming the plastic pick-up would've been used by '96 or so?
