Sad news; another closing

#1

Post by GaryColeman »

I am sad to announce that the Lancaster Coleman Outlet will be closing at the end of June. This was apparently not a performance based decision, but a change of policy by corporate (Newell). I personally love(d) the Coleman outlets and perusing through them for goodies. I bought some very cool stuff there over the years.

My heart goes out to the several employees that will be unemployed due to this bad decision.

Kevin, Lenny and Kirk are top notch employees/managers who do a great service to us, the collectors, by locating NOS parts and providing them to us.

Farewell, Coleman Outlet. The great people there will remain as my fine friends.

Wow
I spoke to Kevin at length a while back and he seemed to think they would be ok.

Ooo, Saturday too is good to hear!

Thank you!

Yep, I stopped in there a few years ago and they were great. I told them I was a ICCC member and they gave me good deals on the things I was looking for. I spent more money than I planned!

I just don't get Newell. They are slowly closing these stores. You do not see much if any Coleman products in stores anymore. Who are they selling to other than Japan? There must have been one of the company's that were under the Coleman umbrella that they wanted. That product line was the the prize and Coleman can just fade away.

Unfortunately, it's not Coleman anymore. It's corporate ownership, although profits are important, looking at bottom lines and not supporting the legacy.

Makes me sick to think of those employees who will be out of careers/jobs.

That particular outlet was really great to us by finding collectible items and NOS parts in the warehouses.

Lancaster Outlet was also the first to attend a convention/gathering with a truckload of items to sell at awesome prices just for us. This Friday will be their last time attending as a retailer. They will continue to come as friends and collectors!

I remember a guy coming to this forum who was trying to buy or get control of the Coleman company. He was a descendent of the original Coleman family. If he doesn't hurry up there isn't going to be anything left of Coleman.

This is supposed to be one of the busiest camping years on record and the camping equipment company closes stores and stops selling product almost everywhere. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Ugh that’s sad. I hate to say it but Coleman just isn’t “cool” anymore ☹️ There are other more flashy companies that people buy. Fashion based, it seems.

The Coleman family hasn't controlled the day to day operations in a looong time. Jarden bought Coleman in 2004, and Newell bought Jarden in 2016.

These are the brands that Newell owns. Which ones can you do without?

Newell Brands Inc. is a consumer goods company. The Company has a portfolio of brands, including Paper Mate, Sharpie, Dymo, EXPO, Parker, Elmer's, Coleman, Marmot, Oster, Sunbeam, FoodSaver, Mr. Coffee, Graco, Baby Jogger, NUK, Calphalon, Rubbermaid, Contigo, First Alert and Yankee Candle.

Sharpie is the only one of those brands that I use, but there are other companies that make a fine tipped permanent marker. Its time start using those other brands. The history and heritage of the Coleman company really means something to me. That company has been a staple of America for over a century. It needs to remain a staple of America.

I’ll have to boycott Yankee Candles moving forward.
This will be devastating to my essence. 😂

Well, I suppose it's a good thing all of my Sunbeam kitchen appliances are antiques too, from before they also got caught up in the corporate merger world. (I'll have to check and see who owns KitchenAid now.)

Rubbermaid though, they really do make the best totes and garbage cans for use at the Scout camp. Others have a tendency to fall apart after a couple seasons.
