It’s 1986 Again

#1

Post by Whitegas Extraordinaire »

I purchased a Panasonic Boom Box back in 1985. Took 8D batteries so I had 16 rechargeable D’s!

I’ve owned a few Bluetooth speakers but this one my son bought is kinda sick.
Sometimes reinvigorating an old style isn’t so bad?

That is sweet! I saw one the other day that look exactly like our boom boxes from the 80s but was all modern tech.

If I can steal it from my son. He says it’ll run 12 hours on high volume!

This thing is heavy, probably 14#, it appears to be all battery and magnet!

$420 US. Big Bucks for a ghetto blaster. Is it worth it? How is the sound quality?

That’s an awesome boom box Kevin! We used to have a Sony stereo system from the early nineties. That thing rocked the room it was in.

That’s pretty cool. I have something similar at work except it a suitcase style with extendable handles and wheels. It has FM, Bluetooth and a sealed lead acid battery similar to a motorcycle battery. It will run hours cranked to a decent level and at low volumes probably upwards of 16 hours. Battery is still good after 5 years and replacements are about $15 on Amazon.

I still have mine that I picked up when I went to college in 83. It still works! It was made by Fischer. After college, I used it for my office radio at work. It is now used in my wood shop. It just keeps going and going.

Where do you insert the cassette tape?

Blue Tooth or line input only. I threw my tapes away 8 years ago.

Thank you!

That’s cool Kevin. I’ve looked at vintage boom boxes on the bay and they sure are fetching big money.

I’ve had a few over the years, one I bought in 1988 that is still around.
I was making $4.55 an hour in a shipping department blasting Sabbath and Zeppelin. The six figures Vice President just had to have one. He settled for a remanufactured one and was happy too. Sadly he’s past on but I still have my boom box.

Thank you!
