That’s good to see as late last week they were not in stock.
I’m holding out for a sale like 2019 but I’m not optimistic.

Thank you!

Yeah, not really sure what series of events need to take place for that to happen.

If you register at Coleman.com, you can receive 15% off, and they offer free shipping. Not a bad deal!

Eric,

It's not quite fine print, but the free shipping offer is if you use 'Afterpay'. "Your purchase will be split into 4 payments, payable every 2 weeks." Although there's no interest added, it's yet another entity that will have your credit card info.

I used PP and paid the full whack…I’ll double check that I wasn’t charged, but my invoice shows “Free” shipping cost.

Maybe the Afterpay is just more enticement by allowing one to pay in installments.

The ad I saw for the 639 on Amazon mentioned a couple of times the "dimming feature" on the lantern. I have no experience with kero lanterns but somehow that doesn't sound right to me.

I tested mine last week with a 500cp Butterfly mantle and it did just fine in upper 30 degree weather at about 40 percent brightness for a few hours. I am new to these and I tested in the middle of the yard away from anything flammable. After hearing a few horror stories from pros here I do not think I will be running it like that on any kind of regular basis. Coleman support says not to do it as it is not adjustable which should translate to dimmable so that must be a misprint or coleman support didn't know what they were talking about. There is an on and off knob and it does not have a low indicator like on many of the CF lanterns with this type of knob.

I’ll say this, I’m reckless 🤣
It doesn’t help that a certain percentage of fuel leaks through the crimp on the mixing chamber. This thing stinks of Kero. I find it difficult to turn it down to 40%. You turn it down and it actually gets brighter with a light meter. Turn it down some more till it’s volume changes and ten minutes later it’s at 25% of max.

Thank you!

These stamped burner/mixing chambers can often use a good going over, looking for possible openings in the seams and getting a little muffler cement.

I had noticed a little kero odor on mine, but not bad. When I had the vent and globe off at a gathering, someone in front of me watching said "Did you see that?. I didnt see it but when I lit it, he saw a little puff of smoke at one of the seams. That's when I broke out the muffler cement. :)

639C
Overfilled clear kero
Soft start
50 pumps
Lit and 6 minutes later measured output

Full bore 2340 Lux at 8”

At 11 minutes turned down to 509 lux set timer

Twelve minutes later my son opened the garage door, it started to change sound almost spit and sputter but ended up being brighter at 639 lux.
Yes the mantle is visually brighter and whiter.

At 28 minutes it dimmed to 7 lux and was ready to fireball .
I’m operating in a roughly 1,000 sqft garage.

Thank you!

That’s been mentioned before but really is sad to have to do that. Approaches ridiculously low product quality.

I am just getting into the kerosene lanterns and my new 639c runs good so far. I bought a second one and am playing with a 290 conversion. I think another couple of weeks and I might be done with kerosene for the most part. I don't think I want to deal with it on any kind of regular basis. I will keep a couple and a nice supply of fuel for the end of days but at this point I do not care for the smell and a gallon of CF will last me 2-3 months so the cost is not a problem.

It’s on sale for $89.99 direct from Coleman now.
One item of note I’ve seen postings with a 2/21 and 3/21 production date
The 2/21 have an old style pump and the 3/21 have the plastic dohickey pump.
The early 2021 dates don’t explain these being outta stock all year. Perhaps they built founts right after the Anniversary lanterns were made?

M just watching farcebook and posts here. There are some later 21 dates popping up with the old style pumps. A 12/21 was found too.

So is having the plastic pump just a no no? Can It be converted to a metal pump? Or is it not worth the effort?

The plastic top part on the pump is not that big a deal practically speaking. Yeah it looks cheap, but it works. Both of mine that I got a few years ago when they went on Black Friday sale (back in 2018 and 2019 I think) are the plastic type and I have had zero problems with them. I'm thinking about grabbing another one at this price just to have another new one. These things are very reliable and hella bright.
When I get home tonight I'll check the build dates on my two.

Edit to add: 03 - 18 and 08 - 19

The ad shows a Propane carry case...is that included in the deal?

The paint is still wet on this one!

Image

I can’t imagine this was just stamped out the other day?

Image

So, I hemmed and hawed and ended up missing the $89 sale sale at Coleman.com. I had one in my cart and less than 24 hours later they were sold out. Ended up calling around locally—no luck. Checked the web and ultimately bought it from Amazon with Prime shipping.

I don’t have any plans of lighting it right now. This is my first brand new lantern ever, so I think I’ll just look at it for a while. If that makes any sense? I think some of you will understand :)

Edit: Re-reading this thread I just realized my pump cap is stamped metal, not the twist-lock plastic type.

Belive me, when they were $89 I gave it some serious thought.

But, I do have a 639 CPR that I can fire up at a moments notice if I start jonesing 😉
