For those not familiar with No Name on the Bullet, it's an Audie Murphy western. It's very different from other westerns I've seen. In this one, he's a hired assassin and when he comes to town, several people think he's there to kill them, so of course they freak out, but he never lets on who his target is. His reputation is that he goads people to draw on him, which makes it self defense. It's a very good movie with good actors.

Limiting favorites to 3 choices is pretty tuff as there are so many great westerns that have been produced over the years. I like historical accuracy, authenticity, action and good believable characterization from the actors. That being said I have to go with;
1. Tombstone
2. Lonesome Dove
3. Dances with Wolves

I didn't realize that there might have been a second version. (You mentioned the "original version")
Anyway, no, I don't think Blazing Saddles is a western movie any more than I think "Get Smart" has anything to do with James Bond movies. Blazing is just not a western. It's full on crack pot comedy at it's best, IMO. Like comparing "Midway" to "Hot Shots". Not in the same league or in the same class, meaning they are just too different.

Warning, thread hijack in progress……

So in this same line of thought, best western movie quotes….

Already quoted here, I saw three dusters like that waiting for a train, inside the dusters there were three men, inside the men were three bullets…

My guess is when he stops whittling, somethings gonna happen

Dyin’ aint much of a living boy

I noticed when you get to disliking someone they ain’t around long either

Why Johnny Ringo, you look like someone just walked over your grave.

I didn’t surrender, but they made my horse surrender, they probably have him pulling a plow up in Kansas I bet

I’m glad you stopped me when you did, I coulda killed her.

Get ready granny, hell’s coming for breakfast

While I have the inclination, the maturity and the wherewithal, but unfortunately I don’t have the time

Those are some memorable lines but you forgot two:

Jacob McCandles : And now you understand. Anything goes wrong, anything at all... your fault, my fault, nobody's fault... it won't matter - I'm gonna blow your head off. No matter what else happens, no matter who gets killed I'm gonna blow your head off.

Jebediah Nightlinger : [praying to God before he's about to hanged by Long Hair and his gang] I regret trifling with married women. I'm thoroughly ashamed at cheating at cards. I deplore my occasional departures from the truth. Forgive me for taking your name in vain, my Saturday drunkenness, my Sunday sloth. Above all, forgive me for the men I've killed in anger ... and those I am about to.

Ok three

Here’s a few I always make a point of watching every couple a few years:
Silverado
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Dances with Wolves

One I really enjoyed recently is “Godless”. It’s a limited western series on Netflix.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is on Netflix too and also really good.
Check out no Country for Old Men for a more modern take on the western.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 KJV For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord , thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
