Main problem today is that there are massive amounts of bad actors with "bot" programs that thrive on cybernetic mischief/crime. Even a bad scammer can make a couple thousand a month phishing for gullible or unwitting victims.

Virus injections, trojans, worms, rootkits, bad cookies, redirects, browser hijacks, and a long series of etceteras are quite common in the wild.

We're living with artificial intelligence every day. The people programming the Robo-calls don't have real intelligence. As of a month or two ago, most of the calls I get are now in Spanish, and I don't speak Spanish. Then there are the calls where they just hang up without saying anything.

I started surveying 45 years ago, when electronic distance meters (EDM) were just getting affordable and small enough to pack around. In those days, a field survey crew was often three people. sometimes more (sometimes just two, but rare). There was a pecking order and built-in mentoring. In the mid-90's, GPS became affordable and changed the surveying world (the world in general for position, navigation, and timing applications). Around the same time robotic total stations (modern day transit with built-in EDM) were being developed where the instrument could track the "rod" and be operated remotely from a data collection device on the rod end using a radio or bluetooth connection.

Today, many private sector "survey crews" are a single person running a robotic total station or a GPS receiver connected to real-time GPS reference network via the internet. It has almost killed the mentoring opportunities from when I started and seriously imperiled the continuance of the profession as a whole.

GNSS (global navigation satellite system - GPS plus other constellations) positioning is unbelievably efficient, accurate, and precise (with proper procedures and data processing), but it has come with costs. Once a robot is running the rod or carrying the GNSS receiver, we will be relegated to using the collected data to make property boundary determinations. Heck, we do very little construction staking anymore, once a bread and butter money maker. Why? Because all of the heavy equipment is guided by GPS/total stations and the operator has a computer in the cab showing the design surface model he is grading to. He is basically playing a video game instead of reading survey stakes.

Adapt or die, I suppose. Fortunately I have another option.....retire.

I had an exchange with a different Christian last week. I had a problem and messaged this man and he is well aware of my faults but instead of telling me I needed to straighten up my act he addressed and elaborated on the problem from his point of expertise in such a loving and caring way that it literally brought me to tears. If Jesus is like that man then I want to be like Jesus.

I would say eschatology is my favorite Biblical subject. For some reason I have always thought the end of the world would be in my lifetime but I have come to realize that every generation has thought that since the resurrection of Jesus. I read the "Left Behind" series, I found the entire series at a garage sale for 50 cents each book and bought every one of them. Those stories are total hogwash, I mean complete bull malarkey, but they are very entertaining. If you enjoy eschatology I recommend J Dwight Pentecost's "Things to Come"

I happen to have personal insight from God on the return of Jesus; it will be in my lifetime. I have talked to doctors, pastors, friends, therapists, about it and I have simply quit going into detail on it; nobody, and I mean nobody, believes me. I will never again share my experience with anyone. I am 54 years old and I vape regularly, I believe in 20 years or so vaping will be revealed as one of the worst things you can do to your lungs. Many of the member here are older than I am, a lot are retired. and I would say most of the members here will not live to see the return of Christ.
