You might keep some basic Coleman stuff available for purchase, like generators, globes, mantles, cap gaskets, and pump cups (you might make them).

Look, I'm just going to be honest with you here. I would crap my pants if I ever walked into a store like this. I get anxiety just thinking about it. Good job and good luck. I gotta ask, do you ship?

Carls a good friend and a great guy. Have been in the store several times and it does not disappoint. Couldn’t tell you how many antique stores I have gone in over the years looking for Coleman stuff, if I would have walked into this store not knowing I would have probably passed out LOL

Just a thought, but if you find people seeing your camping stuff and sharing memories of their youth camping experiences, you may want to consider finding any local campgrounds and see if they will offer a deal to your customers.

Yeah, I guess that was a run-on sentence.

Get one of the Amazon $100 Geiger counters, or make a simple DIY ion chamber, so potential customers can bring in their mantles to be checked for thorium. Have a couple thoriated mantles handy for demo purposes (and for sale!) . People like interactive atomic science. ;)

The Army Navy surplus store in the antique district in Orange county Ca. Has a area where it is obvious that they are doing repairs, I've never met the guy doing them but he has parts and repair tickets on various lanterns and small stoves

If I ever walked into a store like that, I'd have to ask for a job (after I recovered from a heart attack), that way I could pay off my weekly tab in that store. Very impressive setup there.

Keep an eye on your vent nuts and fuel caps!! I've watched lanterns at antique stores slowly loose their parts as they are waiting to be sold

This angers me to no end! I saw a vent nut and burner cap disappear form a 200A over time, and the place only wanted $6 for the lantern. What shocked me was when I was told it was the wealthier people that steal parts, not the less affluent.

So true I’ve seen a early unmarked valve wheel, early pump cap, and a short hanging rod disappear a off a very early cq that I had been eyeballing for over a year and a half. I didn’t buy it because the price was to high for a compromised soldered up fount. I was keeping a eye on it hoping the price would drop. Then one day it was gone. I found it later in another area with the parts missing with a adjustable wrench laying next to it. I’ve also found lanterns the same way.

Wow what a cool store! Like the others I wouldn’t know what to think if I walked into that . Just wondering If you sell many lanterns to casual walk in customer. I know Lanterns sell well online, and that re-sellers snap them up in the wild, but how many non-collectors are buying them just to have one? Basically wondering how much interest there actually is beyond flippers and collectors. I have never seen an antique store that concentrates on them so I’ve never had anybody to ask.

there are not many people that walk in randomly and buy a lantern however it has happened, I’ve only been open for a month and really enjoy the conversation and enjoy talking about all of my old things. It’s a very small town but word travels fast “have you seen the guy with all the lanterns?”

I know that the lanterns alone are not the focus of my business but it is a large portion of it. I’m refinishing furniture and doing a lot of other things as well including some fab work and leather bits. Realistically this is giving me an opportunity to move my collection to be displayed and others for it to enjoy and potentially make some money and some new friends!

Love the look and your business plan. I would really like to do the same here if I could find rent cheap enough. What great conversations you must have. Your store has a nice clean layout and would be easy to browse. I know you are getting a lot of advice but I would consider an operational handout on how to operate old lanterns and stoves.

Thank you for the heads up Carl. I was hoping to meetup with Kevin today and stop by but had to help my dad with his broke down vehicle.

I’ll call you next Wednesday or Thursday. My son might come with me as well.

I visited Carls's store last week. Wow - what an amazing place run by a really nice guy!! Carl is knowledgeable, and like most of us, likes to chat about lanterns.

The store contains a LOT of lanterns and Carl also has some parts including a bunch of globes. I picked up a Canadian nickel 639 for a great price!

I highly recommend making a road trip to visit the store. It is worth it just to meet Carl, but I think you will have a very hard time leaving empty handed!

I am not sure that I should go into a store like that. It would be hilarious to have had anyone here on video walking into that store without knowing what was in there. That is truely awesome!
