A box of parts

#1

Post by sackettboys »

Picked this off an online auction close to me. I noticed in the auction photo what appeared to be lamp pumps and maybe some Coleman literature so I took a chance and bid on it. Got it home yesterday and this is what was inside.

This what I saw online

Is that a set of Coleman pliers? I think those are for stubborn fuel caps.

The pliers were made by Buffum Tool Co out of Louisiana, Missouri. They date from about 1910-1930. They're claim to fame or infamy depending on how you view history is that they had a swastika symbol (good luck & fortune) stamped on their tools. Of course that symbol meant good fortune (and still does in certain parts of the world) long before the Nazi regime altered it. This one doesn't bear the mark.

"blue box silk lite mantels have to be very old" From the late 40s to the mid 50s.
In the Technical Assistance Archive section, there's a article titled "Timeline of USA/Canada Silk Lite & Cotton Mantle Production", lots of good info there.

It was listed in an online estate sale auction near me. The previous owner had been a dentist and this was in the estate. Interesting enough there also was a 220B or C (I'm guessing from the yellow label & the one photo that was used) and an inverted Kamplite lantern in the auction as well. I didn't bid on them as the bidding was already at $200 plus. No other lanterns/stoves or GPA related items were listed.

I was browsing thru the photos when something caught my eye. It was listed as a "vintage wooden toolboxes". I had to buy the whole lot to get the one box.
