Oregon trip, passed more than I bought

#1

Post by hikerduane »

Just back today from camping 8 nights in Oregon, many shops still closed when I passed thru town, especially ones that opened at 11AM. Passed up a large Tilley bowlfire, a 425? with the red wire legs, a 5101 profane in a ghee-o-teen case, 2 426's of some flavor.
First day I bought a nice shape 400 and a few days later a 220E in nice shape with original globe, dirt cheap, just burnt in mantles that nobody used then. A little fettling that afternoon in a CG and it was going with the cap off my 200A. The 400 looses pressure when shutdown, so needs some fettling, does simmer dried soup very well.

Both of those are nice finds. Did you also find the Primus 70 Stove on this trip?

I have a primus stove like that but the case is not in as good condition as that one. I should get it out and lite it as I haven't played with it for several years.

As long as you enjoyed the trip Duane, the stove and lantern are bonuses!

How was the smoke around Yreka? - That big McKinney fire burned through my current B zone hunting area, so will be scouting for where to go next year for sure... This year we got drawn for X zone so fingers crossed that area doesn't go up...

You gotta pass up a lot of stuff or you get buried.

I left July 26 for my trip, just back midday today, first I heard of a fire was today on the CCS forum.
My foot is the same, stretching hasn't helped yet, discouraged.
The Primus was one I picked up the day before my trip thru a eBay purchase to fill a gap in my Primus 71 part of my collection.
If my foot would have been good, I was going to do some backpacking up by Timm's area for 4 or 5 nights, then on to a BP trip by Bend, having gotten a reservation secured to do the Three Sisters loop for up to 5 nights.

I knew there were more, saw a 220F and a Akron lamp missing the genny and shade, but passed on it since so many have issues.

I think I would keep this one and sell my other one.
I brought a box specifically to fill with stoves or lanterns I found along the way, but nothing else moved me enough to buy them, even to pass along to others, the Tilley almost came with me. It had the older style pump I believe, gallon sized fount.
