Wishing to fit a red fresnel on a Coleman.

Is it possible to have a fresnel globe on a Coleman of sorts? The only reasonable thing I can think of and possibly look cool is a red fresnel. What is my best bet in general for this idea?

A lot probably depends on what type of lens you can get and what your expectations for the end product.

Well me and a buddy do some rounds occasionally checking some farm animals and look for critters in the woods. I think even a regular fresnel beam would even look cool on the lantern but the red would be useful. I probably won’t see or use a red “Coleman” globe anytime soon seeing they are hard to come by and expensive now.

I seriously doubt a wickie Fresnel lens will survive the heat of a Coleman--or other--mantle lantern.

But, if you have the bucks to experiment, prove me wrong!

Nope I don’t . I’m just looking for a solution for the color red still and figured that might be one. There is another thread from awhile ago on red globes but there was no real good solution at the time.

I wonder if I can powder coat a globe?

Tyler, there have been many experiments on coloring globes, and none really held up. As for powder coating, it will not hold up to the heat-just did a quick check, and it seems around 200F is the upper limit...GPA globes get hotter than that.
I think your best bet for looking for critters would be a flashlight with a lens.

those are cast glass and would likely break if used with a mantle.

Krylon makes a spray paint for glass, stained glass paint. I recall that some guys bought this and experimented with different cure and coating rates. As I recall the best results were obtained using the yellow or tangerine with three or four coats, with an oven bake in between each coat. I believe the end result was not satisfactory after multiple light ups as the heat discolored the painted globe unevenly. However, you could buy the red and experiment on your own... it might work well enough for your purposes.
