Is there an amber globe for the back-packers?

#1

Post by Ridge Runner »

Hi folks--

I've poked around looking for an amber globe for the 222/226 size back-packer lanterns, but haven't seen one. I don't see an option for one in the 226 parts break down either.

Was there ever one available for these little guys?

Not from Coleman. There were some aftermarket ones. But like the red ones, very hard to find. The company that made the red ones made the amber ones.

Thanks, fellas.

Dan, yea, I’ve seen the red ones and assumed they were a Jafe-produced item. Unfortunately, if/when they pop up they’re usually out of my reach.

Thought it would be nice to have an amber for my 226. The color helps with the bugs and tones down the light a bit, too.

It looks good there, Pancho. I had a feeling if ambers were out there they would be few and far between.

First I’ve seen. Remember when OCP had reds available for $42 each

I’ll post pictures later from the amber

I wouldn't mind getting ahold of a couple of amber globes myself. I've seen one listed on eBay a while back, but wasn't willing to pay what they were asking. I haven't been actively collecting all that long, who is this Jafe fellow?

BusyB, I don't know the whole back story on Jafe and their involvement with coloring GPA globes. From what I gather, the company was putting out some top notch colored globes--and those fetch a good buck right now. The red ones are the most prevelant from what I've seen.

Folks with more time in surely can provide some more insight on how they came to coloring Coleman globes. Hopefully someone can share a little info, I'd be interested in learning more, too.

Thanks. I've seen the name mentioned a few times in reference to colored or frosted globes. Wasn't sure if Jafe was a person, a company, or what.

Jafe Decorating Inc did the globe dying for Coleman for years. When Cigar Mike owned OCP, he would send cases of various globe sizes to Jafe for coloring and then sell them to us collectors. Jafe stop the dying of globes 4 or 5 years ago and sold the equipment to a company in Mexico.
