Higgins profane question
I was wondering if anyone here could tell me what type of propane cannister this Higgins lantern uses. Are they still available?
Thanks,
Jim

The standard long torch ones
My friends don’t call me “Lantern/lampie Levi” for nothin’,if they did call me that.
Looking for bday lanterns 8/38, 8/41,
10/25, and 8/07
The biggest lie I tell myself is ”I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember it.”

Not all will fit, sorry I don't remember the recommended bottles (worthington maybe?) Others in the know will chime in shortly. Cool lantern

I am not sure the modern ones are a perfect fit. Seems like some adjustments may be necessary. But I could be wrong. It could be that the adjustment was needed on the upright version but I remember a thread about this sometime.

not looking for any more Bday gpas. Honestly, if you have a 10-72 don’t let me know about it.

Re: Higgins profane question
Thanks for the quick responses gentlemen!
Re: Higgins profane question
No, the modern ones will not fit. There's a seam in the current ones that will prevent you from inserting the bottle. I grab old bottles at yard and estate sales, and they can typically be had for a buck each.
Someone on the forum once mentioned grinding down that seam on the propane bottle to make it smaller so it would fit. I'm not sure if he is still with us.
An alternative is a modification to that tube by opening that weld, then spreading the tube open. Not something I'd want to do with a classic lantern like that.
That one is extra special. I've not seen or even heard of a re-badged Bernz-O-Matic rocket launcher. Plus, that's in really nice shape!

Jason,
Yeah, that was intentional. That had to be the most dangerous suggestion ever posted on the forum.

Ok thank you for the advice JimL
Re: Higgins profane question
you could just use a hose, just run it in and loop around. Designs like this are super cool makes you wonder what their aim was by doing that.

Re: Higgins profane question
When I used to work at the Ford dealer one of the guys there told me about this really salty crurmudgeon who was a heavy smoker. he never put out his cigs when working on a fuel pump. one day they got a new shop foreman who came over and told him it wasn't very wise to do that. without saying a word he took his cigarette out of his mouth and put it out by dipping it in the gas sitting in the fuel tank and called him some choice words. The bossman just walked away and didn't bug him after that

Re: Higgins profane question
I've found that Worthington/Bernzomatic cylinders are slim enough at the center joint to fit. There may be a slight bump going in, but they fit in all of my rocket launcher lanterns and stoves and the dual beam.
The height difference is compensated for in the design with the gas tube sliding in or out for installation.

that's awesome I love old fashined labels. Closest you get to something like this now is Dr. Bronner's soap but not nearly as cool as this.
