7 dollar 425B

Picked up my first 425 this week, 425B with the gold tank. 7 dollars and has plenty of patina but kinda hard to pass on it at that price.. Decided to fool around with it today. Instead of taking it apart and cleaning it I did a pressure test, put gas in and lit it.. It fired up immediately and runs ok. However, with the tab in the light position it seems to open up a whole lot with a small turn of the knob. When I flip it down to run position it stays that way no matter how far you open the valve. Is that just how 425's are or could the fuel tube be partially blocked? Never had a stove act this way, but I didn't take anything apart yet either.

With the starting lever up, you should be getting air mixed with some fuel. With the start lever down, normally only fuel is supplied to the generator. After you got the stove to light and then turned the starting lever down, did you remember to pump the tank back up? A lot of tank pressure is lost when starting with the starting lever up (normal). If there is some blockage at the fuel pickup orifice I doubt you would see the change you describe.

Makes me think about copper plating one of those and then spraying with a clear fuel resistant finish.

Anyway, pull the valve and clean it it up. Make sure you use steel wool or similar on the F/A tube control rod to remove any varnish. Hope you get it running properly and enjoy a nice user.
