Was travelling back through France and stopped at 'brocante' with heaps of junk outside - eg piles of old rusty cast iron pots, etc.
Anyway, spotted this alcohol stove for €5 and could not leave it behind. After fixing a small leak between the tank and tube it runs well with a nice controllable flame. This is my second alcohol stove so now we can double up the fondu in winter!
I saw several more stoves but was under strict orders that we 'don't need more junk' so they are still there...

@Pancho - I find it really odd that DNA is banned where you are. If they tried that in Switzerland they'd need public vote as pretty well all fondu sets here use it...
@Steve - as a guess I poured DNA into a ring around the centre column and it seemed to work. Unlike my other DNA stove, this one does not appear to develop a flow of fuel rising to the burner when the valve is first opened.
I didn't clean it up any, so that is as-found even with price in pen on it.

That is one cool stove! Fortunately for me I can sneak a lot of "Junk" into my barns because my wife doesn't see it. When she does come out to the barn I'm tinkering in she seems to not pay attention to all the stuff hanging around. That said... I'm not carousing the bars ever night , occasional glass of wine is healthy and I'm not looking for any "strange" either.
If DNA was the preferred method for cooking up your drug of choice before injecting it in your body in California, the state would probably provide the DNA and the stove along with the needles they already provide...

What's the lowest you'll take for this lantern?
Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present.

That's pretty funny, but probably not far from the truth either.

For the guys who live where DNA is not allowed (what a dumb thing!), how do the "authorities" expect furniture restorers to make shellac? The way I know to make it is to take some shellac flakes and mix them with denat alky. Is there some other way to make it, or are furniture restorers just out of business?

The only thing I find to replace DNA it’s HEET yellow bottle at $2.27 for 12 OZ @ Wally World
People say get it while in clearance but that’s not a thing here. On my recently trip to Colorado me and wife were totally surprised with clearance prices at Colorado Walmart and when we returned on our next visit to our local Walmart store (California) we compared prices on the same items and differences were 50-90% on the same items we bought there.
Lucky me on my last time in AZ bought two gallons of DNA to preheat stoves and lanterns.

Very cool. I'd also have bought that. The burner tube and valve arrangement reminds me of a Punker though yours is clearly different. Nice find!
How do you preheat that one?
Steve I seen the same stove in a local antique mall 2 months ago and it was left behind

Ian that’s a nice looking stove to own, I wouldn’t leave that behind too. Sadly where I live denatured alcohol it’s banned
Pancho, as a resident of the people's republic of California, I'm constantly on the lookout for denatured alcohol, I have found that it can still be purchased at marine supply stores and camping stores, but be ready to pay north of $20. a gallon
Ian , nice stove !!

Make a quick trip to Nevada. It’s interesting in CA, if you label it for use in stoves, you can sell it. I still see it in REI for that purpose.
Closest REI it’s 1.5 hours away
Ian and Steve this was the stove I left behind couple months ago

Nice! That looks like the stainless steel model. Was it cheap like Ian's new stove?

Yes, it was SS and wasn’t cheap like Ian’s stove. This one was $65
Tanque oxidado
Gracias
That's a bit pricey but it appears to be in very good condition and a more desirable model than my cheaper galvanized model. I'm not sure if you've ever used a gravity-feed alcohol stove like a Punker or Turm-Sport, but they are very quiet when burning.

I have never ever had an alcohol stove in my life and I’ve always liked to have one but when I do the math on fuel consumption I end with either kerosene or gasoline stoves.

Well . . . I see the problem. You're looking at this hobby rationally!

Good ole Popcorn probably doesn't have a website or a youtube channel, he was a famous moonshiner and decide he would die before he went back to jail for making liquor and that's exactly what he did.
