Any Colorado meetups?
I am interested in finding out if there are any Colorado meet-ups or if those of you in Colorado would like to organize one?
Thanks,
Ross

Hey Ross, I’m up here in Evans along with several other members in northern Colorado. Can’t speak for some of the others up here but I would be interested in some kind of meetup/gathering. Stovie-Steve in the Springs has brought this up before so he would be interested for sure. I wonder how many others would be interested?

Seems like we could use one, but are you thinking a campout or at someone's house?

Would be nice to coordinate a camping/backpacking trip to CO. I have family in Junction, Loveland, Coors Country. Just dreaming.

I personally have always wanted to attend a gathering where camping was involved. From the pictures I've seen shared by folks here, it looks like a good time to meet other people and light up stuff! My vote is for a rendezvous somewhere in the Colorado mountains! Any other nearby members care to weigh in with input/suggestions?
Hey Duane, if you are ever in the area, please make a point to stop by and shoot the bull for a bit.

I've come down to Loveland from a Minnesota trip and been to Maroon Bells on a BP trip, the Mesa briefly and visited my S-I-L and brother in Jct. Denver for my nephews wedding quite awhile back.
Don't know where to move to or spend a summer or winter.

Re: Any Colorado meetups?
Unless we choose a winter camping trip, a meet-up would need to wait until next summer. I guess we could meet while ice fishing since you could light up lanterns, stoves and heaters out on the ice.
Or, we could meet at someone's house, but that constrains the meeting to one day and that's a bit limiting for a group where people are pretty spread out. For those on the Front Range, that wouldn't be too bad, but members on the western slope wouldn't want to do that.

I imagine that not all would be up for winter camping, Steve.
I think setting up something for next summer makes the most sense at this point. Hopefully folks that are interested in attending a Colorado gathering will check in here with their thoughts and suggestions.
Depending on input, some place central to all might work. I personally would be willing to travel a ways to attend.

Well then. I was quite happy that we are getting interest on this because I would gander that if we found a place we would just need to figure out a date to do it. It’s late in the evening for me at the moment so I will re-visit this tomorrow.
I’m leaning towards a camp-out.

I’m in Fort Collins & getting together at a camp site sounds like it would work best. I’m always up for a breakfast & have another group of guys that I meet with at Johnson’s Corner to catch up on what’s going on with the old gang.

Re: Any Colorado meetups?
I think the east coast guys and PNW guys have their act together, they have good turnouts or just so many more of them that camp or collect. Many guys just don't camp, but still collect, judging by members here in California.

Re: Any Colorado meetups?
I agree with the fact that they have their act together, Duane. Another thing they have going for them is the population of members located nearby. Sure, I imagine that some folks drive a long way to those gatherings but as you well know, populated areas in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, etc. are a little more spread out. I usually measure distance in how long it takes to get from point A to point B. Back in the day, we used road sodas as an indication of how long the trip was going to be.hikerduane wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 2:50 pm I think the east coast guys and PNW guys have their act together, they have good turnouts or just so many more of them that camp or collect. Hopefully interested folks will chime in, so we have an idea of how many might attend a Colorado gathering.

Re: Any Colorado meetups?
Just for the record, I'd be okay with a winter 'lightup' meetup sometime over the next 4 months while we wait for less frigid camping weather. I could probably host on a Saturday afternoon, into evening, and we could be in the heated garage and outdoors on the patio.
I've done an evening lightup with some local Coleman users and I showed off some old stoves and lanterns and even fettled a couple on the work bench.

I would be interested in coming to a get together from UT. It would just depend on where it would be.

Re: Any Colorado meetups?
OK well considering it sounds like it would be something we could do how many of you like KOA campgrounds? The other thing is I would like to not only have a meetup where it might not be a camp out and very likely also do a camp out too. There are plenty of places we could find or whatever. So as the weeks go on we can work on things.
Sound good?

A Gathering can be a lot of fun, even if just a one day event. The PNW has had one in Lacey every late winter since 2006. We have it at a hotel conference room. In the fall, we have a three day campout.
There are places you can have a gathering for free. A library usually has a meeting room as do some fire stations, if you want an indoor get together.
All it takes is for one person, with a lot of love for this hobby, to get things organized.
Go for it, Ross!

Hey guys! I’m down for a winter walk-about and then a summer (July maybe) camp out. We could grab a group site at a campground or we could circle up the wagons and do it free on BLM land!
I’m in the Springs- anyone have ATVs ??

I typically camp dispersed on NF or BLM lands. I occasionally camp at State Parks. There are some KOAs along the Front Range, though I've never been to one. So, most places will probably work for me.

Re: Any Colorado meetups?
I stay at KOA's when I travel. You are not going to want a KOA for a campout like this. Most of them are right next to interstate highways. You get to listen to traffic all night long. Most do not have a group area. It just depends on the individual campground. Some of them are also pricing themselves out of what I will pay. Most campgrounds will only allow 6 people per site for visiting or camping. It just depends on how strict the campground is on this rule. It can be done, but a group site works better.
Look for Forest Service, BLM, State or a local campground with a group site. From the campouts that I have been to, those work the best.

Small world!
A weekend camp out would be fine with me as well. State park, group site, BLM, disperse, doesn’t matter to me. A group site would work for most folks since there would probably be amenities nearby. I have spent the last 23 years camping in northern Colorado and points north so I am not familiar with what is available further south. I’m open to suggestions and would be willing to help with researching areas that might work.

I think everyone tries to stay away from the I-70 corridor in the mountains due to Denver traffic, which is why Mark is more familiar with the areas north and I'm more familiar with areas south. In any case, I'm sure that with some searching, we can find something agreeable.Buffalo Jon wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 4:55 amI’d say pick a few spots on the map within a couple hours drive of everyone and then we can just pick one and then work on some dates.
